2013 EuroAgri Visit Househam, Bredal & He-Va

In early June Bruce and Hamish took the opportunity to visit our suppliers in Europe.  Firstly was a quick stop at Househam in the UK to look at both the Spirit and Merlin, Househam’s new self propelled sprayer models.  With a tour of both production facilities and a meet and greet with staff concluded it was time to let the boys loose in these new machines.  We were provided with a large open field, which we used to test the operational features, comfort and driveability of these sprayers.

Onto Denmark and first stop was Heva in Nykobing Mors.  Again the company has two locations close together.  Product training was taken over two days and tours we conducted of both factories.  We also meet some local farms and studied the way European farmers are growing Oil Seed Rape.

Finally to Bredal in Vejle Ost.  Bredal currently operate from three locations with the biggest being their new production facility housing a new powder coating plant.  Again product training was conducted over two days.  We also visited the Test Hall operated by the University of Aarhus where we tested various fertiliser spreader configurations.

Magic new self-propelled options from Househam

New Zealand importer EuroAgri has announced two new self-propelled sprayer ranges from leading UK sprayer manufacturer Househam, following the launch at Househam's head office in the UK in November 2012.

Househam has unveiled the fully new Merlin range as well as new models in its entry-level Spirit range.

Merlin sprayers are a next generation that features a new boom design and layout, better tractor design and ergonomic layout, new wheel motor design and features, a bigger wider cab, higher clearance and smooth underbody, and totally new, simpler plumbing design.

Models in the Merlin ranges are available in 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000 litre tank sizes with standard booms from 24m to 40.

EuroAgri general manager James McCloy says Merlin sprayers feature a 170hp CAT Tier III engine or optional 225hp unit.

“High speed bent axis wheel motors distribute power through the four gear boxes for maximum power, maximum traction and minimum power loss.

“The standard option is a smooth-shift transmission but a stepless ‘smart transmission’ is available as an option,” James McCloy says.

For safe braking on the road, Merlin sprayers have on-board dynamic brakes as well as hydrostatic braking.

The chassis design includes Rubboflex mounted axles that isolate transmission vibration and have fewer lubrication and maintenance points. The axles are telescopic with twin pinch bolt configuration and the extended wheel base gives more stability and near 50:50 weight distribution.

Boom options include twin-fold model with working widths of 13m to 24m and triple-fold models in working widths up to 40m.

“The booms are flat fold to give a lower centre of gravity during road transport. The centre frame of the boom gives the operator total control either manually or with the Househam boom levelling system. If you operate on rough terrain you might want to consider full geometry boom control, which has a ‘return to level’ option,” James McCloy says.

“The plumbing system has been redesigned to minimise its complexity. It gives complete tank emptying, full boom recirculation, and easy access to the filters and pumps for servicing.”

Merlin’s cab offers a high spec operator environment with a highly efficient carbon filtered climate control system, curved and tinted rear glass for optimum visibility,

The 10 inch touchscreen terminal used Intel dual core technology. Options include Field Master GPS guidance software with auto section control or integrated Spray Pilot autosteer.

Househam’s Spirit self-propelled sprayers are entry level machines designed for medium sized operation that now run trailed machines.

“Weighing in at less than 6000kg, Spirit sprayers are essentially high spec’d buggy-type machines with a price that is sure to impress,” James McCloy.

The standard Spirit boasts a high spec cab with full air conditioning, 3000 litre GRP tank, and hydrostatic drives for power and manoeuvrability. Booms are 24m wide and the Spirit has a 140hp CAT engine.

A revolutionary design layout incorporates an open power pack engine and pump system positioned at the rear of the machine for excellent weight distribution. Te power pack has significantly lower noise levels.

Another new feature of the Spirit is the Pantograph arm boom height control.

James McCloy says Househam developed the Spirit for farmers who want greater flexibility in their spraying operations, which trailed a sprayer and tractor cannot deliver.

“Spirit is a self-propelled machine that is within reach of small to medium sized farmers who cannot justify an ultra-high spec machine.”

Robert Willey visits New Zealand

Euro Agri has had the pleasure of a recent visit from Robert Willey. Robert, is the MD and owner of Househam Sprayers in the UK and he has a lifetime of experience in the agricultural world. He took over the Househam brand in 1995. His wide knowledge and perception of the industry enables him to understand the practical needs of sprayer operators and he combines this with the knowledge of design to interpret these needs into features that can be incorporated into the modern state of the art sprayers that the company now produces for a worldwide market.

Robert also met up with some of our customers, at our site and at their various farms. He and James had meetings about Househam and all the prospects for the future going forward.

Before he left, Robert was treated to an air tour of the spectacular Canterbury area.

This is what Robert had to say about Euro Agri after his visit:

The growth of EuroAgri over the last 18 months is not only impressive, but a testament to their company values of providing a great product and outstanding customer service. Househam is a company built on strong relationships with our own employees, customers and business partners;  we strive to work with companies who share those same values. James and the EuroAgri team proactively demonstrate their dedication to building long term relationships. -Robert Willey, Managing Director Househam Sprayers Ltd. “

Directors visit Denmark – home of He-Va and Bredal

Directors visit Denmark – home of He-Va and Bredal

Early December 2010, saw James McCloy and Jo Foster – director's of EuroAgri, head off to Denmark – home of the Bredal and He-Va brand. They visited both the He-Va and Bredal manufacturing facilities – both very impressive factories using the latest technology.

One of the many highlights of the visit, was the three day agricultural trade fair at Agromek – northern Europe's largest agricultural trade fair, which is held every two years. James and Jo were amazed at the size of the show, which attracted over 37,ooo farmers, contractors and dealers that wondered through the 13 halls filled with machinery from Denmark and the UK. Both He-Va and Bredal were also present at the show. He-Va launched three new tillers at Agromek: the Euro-Tiller, the Front-Tiller and the Triple-Tiller – the Triple-Tiller taking the 2010 Agromek new product award.

James and Jo also braved the cold weather visiting many Danish contractors, and among others, a 500ha pig, mink and cereal farm. Mink farming is the third largest animal farming industry in Denmark, after pork and dairy. The mink farming produces almost 40% of the world's production – and this generates more than NZ$700million a year in exports. Because Denmark experiences thick snow for many months of the year with temperatures ranging from -8º to -13º temperatures, the animals are housed indoors for many months of the year.

A wonderful time was had by James and Jo – Bredal and He-Va were fantastic hosts making them feel right at home in their two week visit.

Househam Sprayer Launch

Househam Sprayer launch attracts farmers from throughout Canterbury,  Househam UK Manager attends.

EuroAgri hosted Canterbury contractors and farmers for the September 9th, New Zealand launch of Househam’s new AR Series Self Propelled Sprayers.

Househam UK Director and Sales Manager Jim Dickinson, flew to New Zealand for the launch and spent the previous week visiting clients’ farms.

On display at EuroAgri was an AR 3000 Sprayer (24 metre boom, three thousand litre capacity with Househam’s renowned Air Ride suspension, plus a new Isusu truck with a 24 metre boom, 3,000 litre Househam demount sprayer.

“It was great to see so many progressively-minded farmers at the launch… they were impressed with the Caterpillar engine, updated electronics and new cab with excellent rear vision,”  said James McCloy, EuroAgri General Manager.

Overseas the high-spec AR 3000 is Househam’s most popular self-propelled sprayer.  EuroAgri is Househam’s exclusive New Zealand importer, sales and service agent.

“One of the reasons why we rate Househam Sprayers so highly, is that they’re manufactured to suit specific uses – that’s unusual and a big plus,” said James McCloy.

Househam is the UK’s number one manufacturer of Agricultural Sprayers, exported worldwide with a range of options to suit any crop or soil type.  The range covers virtually every aspect of agricultural spraying; trailed, mounted, amenity and Fastrac Sprayers.
